I woke up at 4:00am with “what makes God laugh” on my mind. I can’t say for sure it was God but it spoke to me in such a way I wanted to share. I was barely awake and as clear as day, I thought about all the stuff we are upset about and how it makes God laugh to think that evil will win in the end. God always wins. Even when it looked like God was defeated and darkness had overcome, the tomb was empty. All the evil people were doing what God had decided beforehand. That is still true today.
Refrain from anger and abandon wrath; do not fret—it can only bring harm. For the evildoers will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land. Yet a little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found. But the meek will inherit the land and delight in abundant prosperity. The wicked scheme against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them, but the Lord laughs, seeing that their day is coming.
Psalm 37:8-13
Wicked
- Will be cut off
- Will be no more
- Will not be found
The meek/those who hope in the Lord
- Will inherit the land
- Will inherit the land and delight in abundant prosperity
“When we fret (the Hebrew word means to “burn or be kindled with anger”), it will only do one thing to us; bring us harm.”
The Lord has plainly told us how silly and dangerous our anger and wrath are. When we fret (the Hebrew word means to “burn or be kindled with anger”), it will only do one thing to us; bring us harm. When God tells us not to do something, He is saying, “don’t hurt yourself.” We go against what is written to our own demise. What our human flesh feels like doing will get us into so much trouble. Why? Because what we feel seems right. What we believe seems right. It becomes our reality. What is real to us is what we act upon.
Why do we see people losing their minds and sleep right now? They think their reality is Reality. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the LORD weighs the heart.
Proverbs 21:2
Every thought we have is our truth. We wouldn’t believe what we believe if we didn’t believe it was right (sounds like a tongue twister). Read that again. This is how we get ourselves, our families, and our nation into big fat trouble. There can be no unity when our reality (delusion) is mistaken for Reality (God’s will being done on earth as it is in heaven).
“There can be no unity when our reality (delusion) is mistaken for Reality (God’s will being done on earth as it is in heaven).”
In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.
Judges 21:25
“We interpret the world according to our own wisdom.”
We have no sense when it comes right down to it. We interpret the world according to our own wisdom. We get panicked and upset when things don’t go the way we think they should. Our greatest interests are usually our own comfort, freedom, our children’s comfort, our money, and justice.
When we focus on those things instead of who our God is, anger, wrath, and fretting start to envelop and smother us. They suck the life of God out and harm moves in.
“God spoke and made the entire universe.”
What came to my mind this morning was the total insanity of all this. God spoke and made the entire universe. His mind thought up the water system, oxygen, gravity, and DNA. He hung the earth over nothing and it spins on an axis (a 1000 miles an hour) as it orbits the sun (at 67,000 miles an hour) at the same time. It still makes no sense to me that we are on a ball and we don’t fall off (or should I say we aren’t “flung off”)
“Yet, we are down here fretting, sweating, and hanging on every word that comes from the news instead of every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.”
Yet, we are down here fretting, sweating, and hanging on every word that comes from the news instead of every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. God could speak at this moment and wipe the world clean of all of us and we are putting our faith in a political candidate and praying as if heaven and earth depend on an election.
“Meanwhile, God laughs at the future because He knows every detail coming.”
Meanwhile, God laughs at the future because He knows every detail coming. He even let us know what’s coming in the book of Revelation. I can understand when people who don’t know God act like life and death is on this earth, it is to them. But to those of us who know God Almighty, I do not understand the anger, wrath and fretting. It is a slap in the face of our God and it only leads to harm; our own and everyone around us.
“God wants us to have the same attitude He has.”
God wants us to have the same attitude He has. When Jesus came to the earth, the Roman world was as corrupt as any nation has ever been. Jesus walked the earth and did the will of God perfectly every moment of the day. How? When we walk in the power of the Holy Spirit, there is no power greater and nothing can stop Him.
Jesus was put on trial by a wicked government. The church (the Jewish ruling authorities) helped put Him there. It was completely fake and unfair. What was the result? God used that wicked government and religious system to complete His plan that was put into action before the foundation of the world. Nothing stops our God. We should be the most confident human beings on the planet. Our light should be shining so bright right now that the world should see us and be astounded by the hope, peace, and love we possess.
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.
Philippians 2:14-16
The day of Christ means His second coming. We have to hold firmly to one thing; the word of life. If we do, we can laugh with God about the future and our faces will shine with His glory for all to see. The darker the world becomes, the brighter His Light should shine through each and every one of His children.
“The darker the world becomes, the brighter His Light should shine through each and every one of His children.”
It is going to get bad, the Word tells us that. We should be warning people instead of hating them. We are going to suffer. It’s a fact. Jesus said about the last days, “If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.” Matthew 24:22. I don’t know how much longer we will be here (no one but God the Father does). However, I do know what the world is coming to…an end.
One of my heroes, Corrie ten Boom, lived through the holocaust and was put in a concentration camp. She suffered horribly. God was with her each step of the way. He did not deliver her out of her circumstances; He showed her who He was through circumstances. When she came out of the concentration camp, God took her all over the world to share, “There is no pit so deep that God’s love is not deeper still.”
As a child, she had worried she would not have the strength to suffer for Jesus. I think we all fear facing a future that could involve suffering for not only ourselves, but our children. It’s natural.
Corrie’s father was a man of great faith and wisdom. She recounted their conversation in one of her talks and I found it.
“Daddy,” she said one day, “I am afraid that I will never be strong enough to be a martyr for Jesus Christ.”
“Tell me,” her father wisely responded, “when you take a train trip from Haarlem to Amsterdam, when do I give you the money for the ticket? Three weeks before?”
“No Daddy, you give me the money for the ticket just before we get on the train.”
“That’s right,” he replied, “and so it is with God’s strength. Our wise Father in heaven knows when you are going to need things too. Today you do not need the strength to be a martyr. But as soon as you are called upon for the honor of facing death for Jesus, He will supply the strength you need–just in time.”
“People of God, let’s show the world who He is in these dark days.”
People of God, let’s show the world who He is in these dark days. People are hopeless and we have hope beyond our wildest dreams. We should be so different that people flock to us for answers.
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect….
1 Peter 3:15
Scripture takes for granted that we will be asked. Is your life so full of hope that people come to you? Are you gentle and respectful, or is your life about drawing up battle lines and taking sides? Remember, Jesus doesn’t take sides; He takes over and changes everything if we will let Him.
